A couple of cousins from Joburg, out to make the best damn High Protein Puddings in the world.

[Pronounced ‘Preem-Oh’] It means top-quality and also ‘cousin’ in Portuguese. Which makes sense, because that’s who we are.

We’re building Primo from the ground up · and bringing you with. Sharing the ride as we grow, laughs, highs, and lows · behind-the-scenes, and plenty of memes as we go.

Because it actually matters. A lot.

Protein helps build and maintain muscle, keeps you feeling fuller for longer, supports your bones and joints, and plays a role in everything from hair and skin to recovery and metabolism. It’s not just for bodybuilders · it’s essential stuff. [1]

Most people aren’t getting enough of it. Especially if you’re active, trying to lose weight, or just getting a little older. Experts recommend aiming for 1.6 to 2.2 grams per kg of body weight per day (way more than the old-school minimums). [2]

Because they nail the balance most ‘healthy snacks’ miss.

Each cup is smooth, decadent, and tastes like it belongs in the dessert aisle (not the diet section). But here’s the twist · behind that indulgence is 20 g of premium, European-sourced milk protein concentrate.

It’s a complete protein, delivering all 9 essential amino acids for muscle repair, recovery, and overall health. Low calorie, no weird aftertaste, and made so you can enjoy every spoonful without feeling like you’ve compromised. [3]

Yep · but they don’t taste like it.

Each cup is built around high-quality dairy protein, giving your body the building blocks it needs for muscle repair, recovery, and overall wellness.

They’re low in calories and fat, have no added sugar and made with just a handful of ingredients (rather than the long list of fillers you often find in ‘healthy’ snacks). That means they fit easily into most eating plans, whether you’re aiming to lose weight, fuel workouts, or simply make smarter choices.

With love · right here in SA.

Every cup is made at our Johannesburg facility that’s FSSC 22000 and ISO certified · meaning it meets some of the toughest food safety standards in the world. That way, every batch is checked, tested, and approved for quality, taste, nutrition, and safety before it gets anywhere near your spoon.

Yes absolutely! They’re low calorie, low in sugar, and high in protein · which helps keep you fuller for longer.

Swapping out a typical dessert or sugary snack for a pudding can help satisfy cravings without overdoing the calories. Like any food, they work best as part of a balanced eating plan.

Each cup has as much protein as a whey shake or small portion of chicken breast · but for fewer calories than a couple of rows of Cadbury. At under 150 calories, it’s an easy swap that feels indulgent without tipping your daily calorie count over the edge.

Yes! They’re a great way to add extra protein to your day, which is key for building and maintaining muscle.

Each cup has 20 g of high-quality dairy protein, made up of both casein (slow-release) and whey (fast-release) · this combo feeds your muscles quickly after training and keeps them supplied for hours afterwards.

On its own, it’s the protein equivalent of a whey shake or a protein bar · but it works best as part of a balanced, higher-protein diet combined with regular strength training.

Not on their own (but we know they can be filling!).

Our puds are high in protein and low in calories, which makes them a great snack or part of a meal, but they are not designed to replace the variety of nutrients you would get from a balanced meal. Think of them as a smart swap for a typical dessert or a way to boost your protein intake during the day.

20g Protein

So about as much as you’d get from most protein bars or shakes, but in a cup that’s generous enough to feel like a full dessert. It satisfies a craving while giving you enough to help keep you full and support muscle repair.

The protein comes from milk, which naturally blends both casein (~80%, the slow-release kind that helps keep you fuller longer) and whey (~20%, the fast-fuel kind that’s great for muscle recovery). Together, they work in harmony to support your muscles now · and later during the day. [4]

We keep it simple and honest.

Both flavours start with high-quality milk protein and milk powder · meaning we can control quality, consistency, and protein levels in every batch, while still giving you all the natural goodness of milk.

Chocolate gets its rich taste from real cocoa powder, while vanilla is boosted with prebiotic fibre for extra gut-friendly benefits. We use stabilisers to keep the texture perfectly smooth, a touch of flavouring for that dessert-level taste, a pinch of salt, and a blend of non-nutritive sweeteners so there’s no added sugar (or unnecessary calories). A pinch of natural preservative (natamycin) helps keeps it fresh.

Yes, but None that we’ve Added.

The only sugars here are naturally present in milk (lactose) · the same kind you’d get from drinking a glass of milk. Having a pud is basically the same, just in dessert form. You still get all the smooth, decadent taste, just without the sugar crash or insulin spike you’d expect from a typical dessert.

Because it’s the best fit for this kind of pudding.

We use a blend of cyclamate, saccharin, and acesulfame potassium (Ace-K) · each plays a role in creating a clean, rounded sweetness that’s closer to sugar, without the aftertaste you sometimes get from a single sweetener. All three are highly heat-stable, so the flavour stays consistent through cooking, pasteurisation, and the entire shelf life.

They’re also some of the most well-researched sweeteners in the world. Food safety authorities like the FDA and EFSA have confirmed they’re safe to consume within recommended daily limits · you’d have to eat enough pudding to fill your fridge (and then some) in a single day to even come close (please don’t). [5] [6]

Yes · our puddings contain no meat, fish, or animal-derived gelatine.

The protein comes from cow’s milk, so they’re perfect for lacto-vegetarians.

Yes (with a but) · while we’re not certified gluten-free, our puddings are made without gluten-based ingredients.

For most people with a gluten intolerance, our puds shouldn’t cause the discomfort or digestive upset that gluten can trigger. However, if you have coeliac disease or a severe gluten allergy, we recommend speaking to your healthcare professional before adding any new food to your diet.

Yes · the only sugars in our puddings come from the natural lactose found in milk.

It’s the same kind you’d get from drinking a glass of milk, just in pudding form. If you’re lactose intolerant, this may cause discomfort depending on your sensitivity, so it’s best to check with your healthcare professional.

We are exploring future recipe changes to make them lactose-free by adding lactase, which would break down the lactose while keeping the same taste and texture you love.

Our recommended selling price is R50 – R55

But prices vary between stores. We do recommend a retail price, but the final shelf price is up to the store. As a small and growing brand, we are still producing in relatively small batches, which can make costs a little higher for now.

We are working to scale up so that we can normalise and stabilise the price over time. We put a lot into each cup, from high-quality ingredients to strict food safety standards · so you can be sure you are getting a pudding that delivers on taste, nutrition, and quality every time.

Yes · our puddings can be enjoyed by children as part of a balanced diet.

They’re high in protein, low in sugar, and made with ingredients you can feel good about. Just keep portion sizes in mind for smaller appetites, and if your child has specific dietary needs or allergies, check with your healthcare professional first.

We’re working on a ‘convenience’ size portion that’ll work well for your little ones too! Whether in a lunch box or as an after-dinner snack.

Yes · Primo Puddings are certified halaal by the MJCHT (Muslim Judicial Council Halaal Trust).

We meet all the requirements for halaal production, from ingredient sourcing to manufacturing processes, so you can enjoy every cup with confidence.

Right now you’ll find Primo in select SPAR stores and a few independent retailers around Joburg and Pretoria.

We’re hard at work to expand our retail footprint, with more popping up all the time. Check our store locator for the most up-to-date list.

We’re sad to say that online orders are on a break · and maybe for good.

It wasn’t an easy call, our online store helped us kick things off, and we’re genuinely grateful to everyone who supported us there from day one.

Right now, it’s just not feasible to keep doing individual deliveries while we’re laser-focused on growing Primo’s retail footprint. The goal is to make it as easy to grab a pudding as it is to pick up milk or eggs · so you’ll see us popping up in more SPAR stores, independents like Pantry and Jacksons, and (soon) more spots across SA.

Our puddings need to be kept in the fridge at 0–5 °C.

Unopened, they’ll stay fresh for up to 4 weeks (check the ‘best before’ date on the underside for your exact batch). Once opened, enjoy within 2 days for the best taste and texture.

Yes · as long as they stay cold.

Our puddings need to be kept chilled, so if you’re taking them on the road, pop them in a cooler bag (ideally with ice packs). That way they’ll stay fresh until you’re ready to enjoy them.

They’re also some of the most well-researched sweeteners in the world. Food safety authorities like the FDA and EFSA have confirmed they’re safe to consume within recommended daily limits · you’d have to eat enough pudding to fill your fridge (and then some) in a single day to even come close (please don’t). [5] [6]

We don’t recommend it.

Freezing causes the puddings to separate, and once thawed, the texture won’t bounce back even if you try mixing it.

While freezing would technically keep them fresh for longer, they won’t be smooth or nearly as enjoyable to eat. Best to keep them chilled and have them fresh.
